WHAT ARE RWANDA’S BEST SNACKS
Kola nut is consumed by breaking it open and into pieces, then chewing the kola nut pieces as you chew gum.
Most people find the taste very bitter, especially at first. Kola nut is a dessert given as a gift to visitors entering a home, usually with some formal ceremony.
Offering the kola nut is a gesture of friendship and hospitality. Cold snacks are represented in Rwandan cuisine by simple fruits like grapes, mangoes, bananas, papaya and avocado.
As with appetizers, fruits are mostly considered snacks, either fresh or dried .
Snacks are very important in our overall diet. They fill us up between meals, add variety to the foods we eat and if we pick the healthy ones, can go a long way in improving our health. Snacks are all around and come in many different shapes and sizes. You can go with fruits, vegetables, sandwiches, chocolate, chips or nuts and the list goes on and on. With all these choices, it can be hard to pick the right one.
The biggest consideration you should make when picking a snack is its nutrient content. Each day you need to get 100% of your vitamin and mineral needs. If you aren’t getting this from your meals, snacks can help plug the holes. When it comes to how many nutrients a food contains, fruits and vegetables are by far the best. This is why one of the healthiest snacks will be a fruit or salad.
Snacks don’t only mean chips, mini donuts, or anything unhealthy. Healthy lunch recipes can be used to make some snacks. Look for recipes that have small servings and if you find a six serving recipe use half the ingredients. Some great snack ideas can be potato skins with salsa, chicken strips, or chips with salsa.
Remember snacking is good when you make it healthy. Healthy lunch recipes are made with less or no fat; by making smaller portions they will make good snack recipes. Especially when you are in a rush and don’t have time to sit down and enjoy a full lunch. Just remember eating healthy is important for you and your family.
